If you've ever toyed with the idea of insight into the messages the universe brings you, you've probably already flirted with tarot or oracle cards.
Tarot and oracle cards carry deep messages. If we open up to them, they will show us something that we may already know deep down, but never came to the surface.
However, when people ask me which is better - tarot or oracle cards - there is no correct answer.
What are the main differences between tarot and oracle cards?
Oracle cards
Oracle cards are known for their "freedom" and free interpretation of the meaning of the cards. Decks of oracle cards are extremely diverse, so everyone can find something for themselves. Also, the number of cards in different oracle decks varies.
The illustrations on the cards and their messages are set broadly and help you answer the main questions of life. They give broader answers and are less structured in contrast to tarot.
When choosing between sets, the choice is really varied. Not only are the themes of the kits varied, the messages can also differ.
You can choose from crystal oracle cards, cards that focus on specific messages/quotes, cards with the phases of the moon as a central element, or "business" cards.
Oracle cards are great for anyone who would like to indulge in a free interpretation of messages and a general approach to card reading.
Tarot cards
Unlike oracle cards, tarot cards have a more rigid structure and come with more rules. This does not mean that they are not open to creative interpretation.
Most tarot decks have 78 cards, regardless of the iconography and approach of the cards/decks. Also, regardless of the set of cards, the meanings of the individual cards are similar.
Each deck of tarot cards has two "subsets" of cards - the major and minor arcana. The major arcana usually talks about major life changes, while the minor arcana touches on smaller changes in everyday life. Together, both arcana form a complete story and message.
Tarot cards are great for those who prefer a unified approach to card reading with a little more structure.
How to choose what is better for me?
When choosing between tarot or oracle cards, there is no winner. Similar to crystals , you have to choose by feel.
What is it that attracts you?
Which cards are calling you?
Follow your gut feeling, because it always tells the truth.
Card reading can be creative too!
If you can't decide on specific cards, it may be a sign that two sets of cards are calling to you.
You can also combine sets while reading. Many people start with oracle cards, which during reading serve as an orientation or direction in which the reading will take place.
They help show the main questions the reader is looking for answers to.
Tarot cards then often serve as an "addition" to the starting point set by the oracle cards. They provide detailed insight into a predetermined topic and clear up unanswered questions.
